Spirotech owl and air separators for underfloor heating: Specifications and points of attention

A well-functioning underfloor heating system starts with a clean and air-free system. Spirotech separators ensure continuous filtering of dirt particles and air, resulting in higher efficiency, less maintenance and a longer lifespan of your installation. Below you will find some general specifications that you can pay attention to when choosing a Spirotech dirt or air separator:

1. Pressure range (bar)

   • Most models are suitable for working pressures up to 10 bar (some up to 6 bar).
   • Always check the specifications of your central heating system; for higher requirements, industrial versions are also available.

2. Connection size (inch)

   • Standard connections range from 3/4" to 1 1/4" or larger depending on capacity.
   • Some Spirotech models are also available with flange connections for larger systems or industrial applications.

3. Capacity and power (kW)

   • The maximum flow rate (in m³/h) and the associated power (kW) differ per type and size of separator.
   • As a rule of thumb, the greater the heating capacity of your system, the larger the separator must be to handle the flow.

4. Temperature range

   • Most models can withstand water temperatures up to approximately 110 °C .
   • This is usually more than sufficient for underfloor heating and standard central heating applications.

5. Performances

   • Spirotrap (dirt separator) to remove circulating dirt and magnetite.
   • Spirovent (air separator) to remove micro bubbles and air from the system.
   • Spirocombi (combination) that separates both air and dirt in one unit.

6. Ease of maintenance

   • Most Spirotech models are equipped with a drain valve or rotating separator for easy removal of dirt.
   • In principle they require little maintenance; regular draining is often sufficient.
