Edge insulation: the buffer for your walls

  • What is it good for?
It sounds like a word you’d come across in a pub quiz, but edge insulation is a strip that you apply along the walls before pouring the screed. This strip ensures that the floor can expand and contract without cracks or heat loss along the walls.
  • Uponor edge insulation
We know Uponor from their high-quality pipes and distributors, but the edge insulation is also top quality. The flexible strips make it easy to work tightly, so that your floor fits neatly everywhere.
  • Why indispensable?
Imagine your wall and floor colliding like two crazy penguins on an ice rink—edge insulation prevents the collision and keeps the heat inside the floor where it belongs.

Joke in between : “Edge insulation is like a good neighbor: you only notice you need him when he's not there.”

Wire mats and stud plates: the bodyguards for your underfloor heating pipes

  • Wire mesh mats
Wire mats provide extra strength and grip for the underfloor heating pipes. They keep the pipes neatly in place, so that they do not 'wander' when you pour the screed. They also make it a lot easier to keep the same centre-to-centre distance everywhere.
  • Stud plates
Do you prefer a slightly “tighter” system? Then studded plates offer a solution. These plastic plates have—the name says it all—studs into which you can simply press the pipes, without clips or frills. Ideal if you want to work faster and use as few tools as possible.

Joke in passing : “Think of stud plates as the LEGO of your underfloor heating—only you don’t end up with 3-year-old constructions that ‘accidentally’ poke your foot.”

Foils, tacker plates and more

  • Foils
A moisture-resistant foil ensures that your screed does not absorb unwanted moisture and protects your insulation layer underneath. This makes your system more resistant to mold and moisture problems.
  • Tacker plates
These grid-patterned plates act as a kind of 'notice board' for your pipes: you attach them with tacker rivets, and voilà—the pipes are rock solid. Perfect if you're looking for a simple but effective way to secure pipes.
  • Bouncing on other accessories?
Be sure to check out our clip rails, expansion joints and all the other little parts that make the life of a floor heating installer easier. It's the nuts and bolts that really hold it all together.

Joke in between : “Have you ever tried duct taping your pipes to the floor? Neither have we, because tacker plates work a lot better (and save you a lot of cursing)!”

Why accessories are more than 'extras'

  • Heat retention : No unwanted draughts along skirting boards and walls.
  • Tight installation : With stud plates, wire mesh and tacker plates you ensure that your pipes do not shift.
  • Longer lifespan : By choosing quality materials such as Uponor edge insulation and sturdy mats, you prevent damage and extend the lifespan of your floor.
  • Comfort & energy saving : The better insulated and secured, the faster your floor will warm up and the less energy you will lose.
